Despite a combined 30 points from two starters and a 21-point fourth quarter the Perry Jayettes (11-5, 5-4) basketball team suffered a three-point, 41-48 loss at the hands of the host Boone Toreadors (14-4, 9-1).

In this conference bout, which was originally scheduled for Jan. 10, the two teams brought their A-games hoping to either distance themselves or get one step closer in the Raccoon River Conference.

Perry starters Johanna Diw, junior, and Grace Marburger, senior, came out firing with a combined 12-for-30 night including 5-for-11 from beyond the arc.

Diw finished with 18 points and also came down with a team high 11 rebounds - six defensive and five offensive - of the team’s 25 total boards, 14 defensive, 11 offensive.

Marburger contributed 12 points with five rebounds and was responsible for five of the team’s 10 assists.

The host team held the Jayettes to just nine first-quarter points while ending the period up by five points after scoring 14.

The trend continued in the second with the Jayettes unable to muster a double-digit quarter with only eight to the Toreadors’ 11.

In the third quarter the Jayettes finally reached the two digit mountain top with 10 points while at the same time closing the deficit to just six after holding Boone scored eight.

With just eight minutes remaining the Jayettes’ offense finally awoke with 21 points but it wasn’t enough as the home team kept their opponents at bay with 18 points.

Collectively as a unit the Jayettes finished 19-of-53 including 9-for-24 from three and only 1-of-2 from the line. They created three stealing opportunities and had no blocked shots.
