To the editor:
On Feb. 22 Perry High School played host to the 30th annual Perry Band Olympics, the Super Bowl of solo and ensemble contests. Hundreds of the finest high school musicians performed in 16 contests before knowledgeable and experienced college judges.
Perry band members did their usual excellent job of manning the centers, and contestants, directors, parents and friends left with a renewed high opinion of the Perry Community School District.
Perry Band Director Steve Cook has built the event into the apex of high school performance, and it is with regret that his resignation has left many people hopeful that the Olympics can continue in the future.
Anyone connected with music education in Perry should doff their hats to the man who has solidified his place on the musical map of Iowa.
