Did You Know… Perry was home to a car club in the 1960s? In the late 50s and 60s, there were several car clubs in Perry. The largest and longest lasting were the Centurions. This was a time when cruising Willis and 2nd Street was the thing to do. The Centurions were sponsored by the Perry Police. The club held economy runs, took part in car shows in Des Moines and held car washes and dances to raise funds to fund the club autos. Car clubs were very common in this era, but times change and now nobody “Shags the Drag” or “Scoops the Loop” on Saturday night.
