Dear Editor:

The American Legion Department of Iowa called a special meeting to breathe life into the local American Legion Post #0085, Perry Iowa. The American Legion has been a part of this community for numerous years and has provided this community with many worthwhile programs that the American Legion strives to promote for our youth and perpetuate a strong sense of Americanism and Patriotism in our community.

The Legionnaires discussed several ideas on how the Post #0085 could move forward and raise the needed financial support to continue to provide the veterans in our community with the services they deserve. The leadership and members of Post #0085 look forward to rebuilding strong relationships within the community. To provide any veterans or families of veterans any needed supports of the American Legion.

The local Post building has been locked with all utilities shut off. This means the Legion members and Auxiliary do not have access to their Post. Reopening the Post building will be the first mission of the leadership to address. If you could help with a tax-credit donation or other ideas as ways to complete this mission, please contact the Legion Post #0085 leadership. Please DO NOT let our Post die!

Until the reopening of the Post building, the Masonic Lodge has graciously donated the use of the Lodge for the Legion’s meeting. The legion will continue to have our meeting on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 19:00 or 7 p.m. Legionnaires, the Post Commander respectfully requests that you attend the meetings and have your voice heard in the ways our Post could better serve the community and ideas to move our Post forward. If you are a veteran and wish to join the American Legion, attend a meeting and sign up or contact any Legionnaire member.
