The best kept secret is Adel is the Library Garage Sale on the last Friday of the month but Librarian Paul James hopes to correct that with new signs at the stoplights for this, Friday July 28.
It is upstairs starting at 9 a.m. and people line up at the door to be the first to find some real treasures. My own favorite is the nearly 6-foot Giraffe Lady donated by Rikke Varcoe. It is meant to cover our vacuum cleaner but I proudly sit her on my patio at 600 South 12th on good-weather days.
Nothing is priced so if you see a price it is left over from a garage sale elsewhere. It is all a free will donation and goes to the Library Foundation to be spent entirely on the library needs.
Rex works all month sorting the donations left at the front desk and you can call if in doubt as clothing and computers are not accepted. You will find items around the railing and paintings down the hall to your left and an entire room of “stuff” too good to be true and if you can’t use it you can give to friend or for gifts.
The sale continues on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. so hope to see you there as I start taking our money and encouraging you to go back and get more at 1 p.m. on Friday.
