Did You Know… May Baskets used to be a common sight in Perry?

The tradition of May Baskets goes back over 100 years. Each year on May Day, a person would hang on a special someone’s door knob a May Basket. These baskets contained treats, like popcorn, candy and sticks of gum. You ran and hid, once you had placed your basket.

I remember making these baskets, out of colored paper and pipe cleaners, in grade school. This annual May event seems to have fallen from favor, with the kids today. Too bad.
