Virgil Holck, 89, of Johnston, formerly of Perry and Fontanelle, died Monday, Jan. 20 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

A memorial service was held Friday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. at Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Mercy Hospice in Johnston and may be left at the Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent atwww.carrisfuneralhome.com.

Virgil James Holck was born Nov. 20, 1924, at Paullina, Iowa, to George and Della Holck.

He graduated from Paullina High School.

He was united in marriage to Irene Agnes Kramme Holck on June 16, 1950, at Hartley, Iowa.

Virgil worked for the Northern Natural Gas Company underground storage near Redfield for more than 35 years.

Virgil was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle.

He enjoyed fishing, dancing, camping, spending time with his family and going to Texas every winter. He especially loved caring for the love of his life, Irene, and his family.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, George and Della Holck; a sister, Mavis Proehl; a brother, Orville Holck; and his loving dog, Clyde.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Holck, of Johnston; son, Tom (Rhonda) Holck, of Granger; daughter, Virgene (Reggie) Martin, of Fontanelle; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Elsie Westphal, of Cherokee and many nieces and nephews.
