Myrtle Alice McClatchey, 93, daughter of William and Mabel (Jack) Hancock, was born June 21, 1920, in Albert City, Iowa. She passed away Friday, March 14 at the Panora Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She and her family moved to Madrid and then to Perry. In 1938, Myrtle graduated from Perry High School.
In January, 1939, she was united in marriage to Raymond Rex McClatchey of Yale.
They were the parents of two children, Shirley and Rex.
Myrtle and Raymond lived and farmed together near Yale until Raymond’s death in 1980. She continued to live on the farm and took great pride in taking care of her large yard and garden.
In 2013, she moved to the Panora Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Panora.
Myrtle was always active in her local Prairie Center rural church, which she joined in 1950. She was also a member of the UMW and a member of a neighborhood women’s group, the Lazy Daisy Club.
She is survived by her son, Rex (Barb) McClatchey of Yale; two grandsons, C.J. (Kim) McClatchey and Kirby McClatchey; five great-grandchildren, Dalton, Hannah, Kevin, Lauren and Kyle; sister-in-law, Rosemarie (Neil) Davis; and nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond; daughter, Shirley (Gary) Adametz; brother, Bill (Gladys) Hancock; parents-in-law; sister-in-laws; and brother-in-laws.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 19 at the Twigg Funeral Home in Panora.
Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, adjacent to Prairie Center Church in rural Dallas County.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 18 from 4-8 p.m., with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home in Panora.
Memorials may be left to Friends of Prairie Center.
