Services for Maxine Morgan, 85, of Perry were held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6 at Murdock Funeral Home in Perry.
Pastor Tim Johnson officiated, with Elta Summerson as the organist. Musical selections included, "Amazing Grace," "Mansion on the Hill," "Whispering Hope" and "Beyond the Sunset."
Pallbearers were David McDowell, Don Thomas, Gary Martin, Gary Greif and Brian Brownrigg.
The family greeted friends one hour prior to the funeral service at Murdock Funeral Home. Burial was in Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry.
W. Maxine Morgan was born Nov. 19, 1928, in Birch Tree, Mo., the daughter of Roy and Wrena (Watson) Smotherman. She moved to Iowa in 1941.
As a teenager, Maxine worked at Deets Hamburger Shop. Later she would be employed as a clerk at the Ray B. Smith Drug Store in Perry.
Maxine was united in marriage to Dewey Morgan in March, 1962 in Des Moines.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Perry, the Christian Women’s Fellowship group and the Christian Children’s Fellowship group.
Maxine enjoyed country music and traveling to Branson, Mo., with her sister. She loved animals, especially dogs and horses.
Maxine passed away Jan. 2 at her home in Perry.
Maxine is survived by her sister, Dorothy Greif of Grimes, sister-in-law Vivian Smotherman of Perry and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dewey, in 2002, son, Ken Boyden, in 1974, sister, Vesta Louise Smotherman and two brothers, Bob and Ed Smotherman.
Memorials are suggested to the Iowa Hospice in Panora and may be left at Murdock Funeral Home.
