John E. Glenn died unexpectedly in Oklahoma City, Okla., on Jan. 7 at the age of 77.
He was born in Perry Dec. 7, 1936, the 11th of 12 children born to Francis and Anna Glenn.
John entered the US Marine Corps in 1956 and served until 1959.
He was retired from Firestone Tire and was working for SMG at Chesapeake Arena at the time of his death.
John was a loving husband, father and grandfather and was very devoted to his family.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirlene Teresa Overton Glenn; three children, Nancy Ballard, Chris Glenn and wife Susan and Theresa Shelley and husband John; five grandchildren, Stacy Sanford and husband Chris, Kacy Ballard, Amber Shelley, Christopher Shelley and Mia Glenn; sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews; and his beloved constant companion, his dog, Lilly Belle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters and an infant son, John Edwin Glenn.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at St. Monica Catholic Church in Edmond, Okla.
