Peg, as she was fondly called, attended rural school and graduated from Defiance Public High School.

Peg grew up with and dated her loving husband Ray during high school and the two were married May 8, 1946, at Ray’s Grandmother Hunt’s home in Defiance.

Peg worked for the local telephone company in Defiance and then for J. C. Penney’s and several other stores in Denison. Peg and Ray lived in Glidden and then Linden, where Ray owned and operated a produce and trucking business while Peg held down the home front. The couple then moved to Perry in 1972.

Peg was an avid bowler and played on league teams for many years until the bowling alley in Perry burned. She enjoyed the senior luncheons at the McCreary Community Building, sewing, and loved bird watching. She could always tell people when certain species of birds would start appearing in the spring.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband Ray for 62 years; four brothers; Leland, Kenneth, Lawrence and Harold Blackwell; and sister Gay Kerns.
