A funeral service for Florence Grace Lockard Bennett was held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29 at the First Christian Church in Perry. Visitation was after 12 p.m. on Monday with family present 4-6 p.m. at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry.
Pastor Tim Johnson of the First Christian Church provided words of comfort. Honorary bearers were Jill Accardo, Joy Eldridge, Dina Hollister, Dan Pottratz and Bill Hollister. Casket bearers were Omer Bennett, Leon McDowell, Bill Bennett, Bob Bennett, Gary Yanders and Chuck Yanders.
Organist was Donna Emmert and "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden" were the hymns played. Interment followed the service at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry.
Florence Grace Lockard Bennett was born September 5, 1918 at Searsboro, Iowa, to Cecil E. Lockard and Flora M. Reed Francis and died October 24 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone at the age of 95 years, 1 month and 19 days.
She graduated from the Montezuma High School in 1936 and from the Thompson’s Beauty School in Des Moines in 1938.
She worked for Findley’s Beauty Shop in Boone and then moved to Perry in 1944, where she worked for 40 years in different beauty shops.
Florence married Donald R. Bennett on May 8, 1946 in Missouri. The couple had two daughters, Donna L. Pottratz and Linda L. Hollister.
Florence was very active in her church, the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ of Perry and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star- Perry Faithful Chapter #142.
She enjoyed reading, cooking and baking and especially baking her lemon pies.
Florence was a very loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil E. Lockard and Flora M. Reed Francis; her husband, Don; daughter Donna Pottratz; brother Bill Lockard and sister Louise Bossert.
Florence is survived by her daughter, Linda Hollister (Jerome) of Des Moines, and son-in-law Craig Pottratz (Susan) of Boone; five grandchildren: Jill Accardo of Oswego, Ill, Joy Eldridge (Mark) of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Dina Hollister of Des Moines; Dan Pottratz (Ruth) of Ankeny and Bill Hollister (Melissa) of Ankeny: and twelve great-grandchildren: Colleen and Claire Accardo; Jeremiah and Jonah Eldridge; Brett and Alex Robinson; Atticus, Axel, Magnus, Lars and Astrid Pottratz and Emma Hollister.
Heart-felt thanks are extended to the staff at the Eastern Star Masonic Home and Iowa Hospice for the loving care she received.
