A Mass of Christian burial for Dakota Andrew Hoffman was held 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Perry.
A Vigil was held 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Father Paul Nguyen of St. Patrick’s was the Celebrant. Cheyenne Hoffman was the lector. Carole O’Hare was the Eucharistic Minister. Gary and Sandy Spooner were the gift bearers. Bill O’Hare and Gary Becker were the ushers. Casket bearers were Brian Morehead, Nick Miner, Ed Coleman, Seth Coleman, Stone Bohall and Justus Bohall. Chuck Schott was the musician.
Interment took place at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry, Iowa.
Dakota Andrew Hoffman, son of Craig Hoffman, Jennifer and Matthew Spooner and biological father Pat Atkins, was born June 8, 1995, in Des Moines and died Jan. 12 in Perry at the age of 18.
Dakota attended school at Granger Assumption, Dallas Center-Grimes, Perry, his sophomore year at East Greene and then graduated from Perry High School.
Dakota enjoyed football, baseball and art. He was attending college at DMACC for Welding. Dakota enjoyed masonry work.
He was preceded in death by his step-grandmother Lesa Werner.
Dakota is survived by his mother and step-father, Jennifer and Matthew Spooner; father, Craig Hoffman; biological father, Pat Atkins; sister, Cheyenne Hoffman; brothers, Jacob and Tyler Hoffman; half-sister, Ashlyn Atkins; step-sisters, Airel Walker and Hannah Sloan; step-brothers, Christopher Spooner and Austin Carpenter; grandparents, Veronica LaBar, Keith and Becky Harvey, Wayne Werner and Carolyn and Lewis Atkins; step-grandparents, Gary and Sandy Spooner; great-grandparents, Vi and Harold Sheets; aunts, Valissa Werner, Heidi Miller and Kisha Niebuhr; step-aunts, Donna Todd and Christine Madren; uncles, Cory and John Atkins; step-uncle, Jason Spooner; his soul mate, Gracie Coleman; many great aunts and uncles, cousins and many friends.
