Ruth Alberta Colwell was born on September 11, 1938, in Jefferson, Iowa, to Mary Beckner and John Clifford Norman. She began life on a farm outside of Paton. John Norman was killed in World War II. Mary and her two daughters, Ruth and Peggy, married Donald Remele.
Ruth grew up on a farm one mile east of Bagley. She was very active in the Bagley Church of Christ, 4-H, Band, Glee Club, basketball and cheerleading. She graduated with the Class of 1956, after which she attended Iowa State University. She married Thomas Colwell from Cincinnati and they had one son, Timothy Robert Colwell.
Ruth was a wonderful mother. She was always involved in Tim’s activities. During the Go-Kart years, they had a motor home and trailer and traveled all around the U.S. She was “Mom” to everyone involved with Go-Karting, golf, baseball and church. She was nurturing and loving to all. Ruth was outstanding at keeping life together for her family.
During her working years, she was a realtor, secretary for various businesses and worked for H&R Block, receiving awards for employee of the year. She was very active in every church she attended, working closely with the youth.
Ruth was a generous, giving person. Every surviving family member has fond memories of the many gifts they received over the years. They were always “just what I always wanted,” because they were chosen with love.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Thomas.
She is survived by her son, Timothy of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; her sisters, Peggy (Bill) Raymond of Bella Vista, AR, and Kathleen Miner of Perry. She will be missed by many friends and relatives.
