Fred “Don” Bailey Jr., age 82 of Perry, passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Dallas County Hospital in Perry, Iowa. According to his wish, Don was cremated and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials will be given to and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Fred “Don” Donald Bailey Jr. was born on Nov. 22, 1935 at Perry, Iowa to Fred Donald and Viola Irene (Miller) Bailey Sr. He attended school at Perry High School, graduating with the class of 1956.
He was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Hogbin at Ferndale, Mich. on March 23, 1957. He worked for the Perry Police Department, Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, the Milwaukee Railroad Detective and last at the Woodward State Hospital.
He was a member of the American Legion, the Iowa Softball Hall of Fame and the Des Moines Softball Hall of Fame. He was a Cubs Fan and loved watching the Iowa Hawkeye’s.
Don was accomplished in bowling with 3-300 games and an over 800 series. He was a pitcher for softball, loved spending time with his grandchildren, going to the casino, working in his yard and always made sure his family was cared for.
In death he rejoins his parents, Fred and Viola Bailey and siblings, Larry Bailey, Jerry Bailey and Judy Lawrence.
Left to cherish Don’s memory are his wife Shirley Ann Bailey, Perry, Iowa, children, Candace (David) Holcomb, Bagley, Iowa, Dawn Bailey, Perry, Iowa and Steve (Angie) Bailey, Perry, Iowa, grandchildren, Travis (Bethany) Spence, Perry, Iowa, Nicole Spence, Perry, Iowa, Robyn Spence, Grimes, Iowa, Joshua Williams, Grimes, Iowa, Ron and Ashly Landals, Perry, Iowa and Kassie (Austin) Munoz, Ankeny, Iowa, great grandchildren, Caleb Spence and Daxton Spence, Perry, Iowa, Cameron and Caiden Spence, Perry, Iowa, Peyton Landals, Perry, Iowa and Audi, Declan and Ellington Munoz, Ankeny, Iowa, siblings, Richard (Deb) Bailey, Libertyville, Ill. and Jackie (Duane) Cannon, Afton, Iowa.
He will also be lovingly remembered by many other family and friends.
