The 45-member Pride of Iowa Men’s Barbershop Chorus will perform at the ADM High School in Adel on Monday, Nov. 25 from 7-9:30 p.m. Whether you are a shower singer or a Doctor of Vocal Music, your participation is welcome. These weekly practices include warm-ups and a vocal music lesson. This is not a concert but a practice.

The Pride of Iowa Chorus defended its AAA Most Improved Chorus ranking in October at the annual district convention, held this year in Kansas City, Mo. The chorus is one of 58 chapters in the Central States District of the Nashville-based Barbershop Harmony Society, known historically as the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA).

Founded in Tulsa, Okla. in 1938, SPEBSQSA was headquartered many years in Kenosha, Wis. The chorus and its all-women’s affiliate, the Sweet Adelines International, ceased to exclude non-white members in the early 1960s.
