To the editor:

If you were at the Perry Performing Arts Center last Saturday night, you certainly got a special treat. The Fine Arts Concert Series kicked off the season with an internationally acclaimed jazz band from New Orleans.

Doreen’s Jazz New Orleans lit up the stage with their traditional jazz, blues and soul music. I have never been to "The Big Easy," but I sure felt like I was right there on Bourbon Street while I was listening to their performance.

All five musicians were masters of their instruments, but Coreen and her clarinet … wow! I have never heard anything like it. The next best thing was her low, smooth soulful voice. She was truly amazing.

After the concert, I asked her where that beautiful voice came from, and she replied, "God. It’s all God."

She was a joy to meet and was very complimentary on our auditorium and our sound specialists, Steve Cook and Gary Weishaar.

Perry and its surrounding communities have so many treasures to be proud of. The Perry Performing Arts Center and the Perry Fine Arts Concert Series are two of those treasures.
