Dallas County Hospital recently named its employee of the year and volunteer of the year, according to a hospital spokesperson.
Brian Nelson, who works in the hospital’s facilities department, was named the Dallas County Hospital Employee of the Year, and Richard Gelbowitz, also in facilities, was named the Dallas County Hospital Volunteer of the Year.
Nelson was also an Employee of the Quarter in the third quarter of 2013, according to Jenny Hornsby, the hospital’s public relations manager. He was nominated for taking the initiative on many projects, she said.
"Brian has taken on the Green Team’s leadership role and successfully led many initiatives that qualify for community benefits," Hornsby said. "He continually displays the Dallas County Hospital values of compassion, respect, integrity, excellence and teamwork."
As Volunteer of the Year, Gelbowitz volunteered more than 15 hours of his own time to represent the Dallas County Hospital within the wider community.
"From taking ownership of the float in the Dallas County Hospital Fourth of July Parade to spending an evening with high school students working at the Perry High School concession stand, Richard showed the DCH spirit by giving back to others," Hornsby said.
Both received their awards at the annual employee holiday celebration held Nov. 22.
