Arts and crafts go together like Sven and Ole, so it is only natural that the Nov. 9 Art on the Prairie festival should be followed on Nov. 16 by a craft fair at the McCreary Community Building in Perry.
Bev Wesely of Perry spearheaded this year’s show, the ninth held at the McCreary Center since its revival.
Wesley said Brenton Bank sponsored the event for 15 years as an early-October craft show, but the shows ceased after Wells Fargo & Company acquired Brenton Banks Inc. in 2000.
"It was years later at a craft show at the armory," Wesley said, "when I said to myself, ‘We need to start having the craft show again, and the McCreary Center is just the place for it.’"
With the cooperation of Kathi Henley, at that time the McCreary director, the show was revived in 2005, Wesely said.
Assisting Wesely with this year’s event were Ron and Jennifer Milne, longtime Perry residents.
About a dozen vendors sold their wares this year’s show, and cold temperatures were not enough to depress the attendance or dampen the spirits of the shoppers.
