Perry Public Library is now hosting a registered Animal Rescue League therapy dog, with the goal of aiding beginning readers. The Paws to Read program will begin on Monday, Oct. 22.

First grade children may reserve 20-minute time slots with our canine friend, Gunner, and his handler, Zach Snow, between 3:40-5:40 p.m. on Monday afternoons during the school year. Children will read for 15 minutes and then have a few minutes of playtime with Gunner. This is a relaxed, non-threatening way for early readers to gain practice and confidence.

Permission slips were sent home with the first-graders from school. For more information, call the library at 515-465-3569.
