Signs for Democratic nominees Cindy Axne, Fred Hubbell and more line the windows in front of 1220 Willis Ave. American flags hang next to the signs while a red, white and blue banner hangs above.

“It's starting to look patriotic in here,” said Monica Peitz, Perry Area Democrats committee member, as she looked around the room on Monday, Sept. 17.

Committee members were helping to hang the campaign signs and clean the windows inside of the Perry Area Democrats new office.

Fellow committee member Jane Hermann found the office space to rent at 1220 Willis Ave. while she was getting her nails done in the shop across from the office space.

Hermann said the group was looking for a space to open an office for the election season. The space, she said, is perfect as it has a lot of exposure on Willis Avenue.

She added that more tables and chairs would be added to the space. The Perry Area Democrats plan to hold their meetings in the new office. The Dallas County Democrats provided the funding for the Perry Area Democrats office.

“We're excited,” Peitz said. “We plan to have this be the center of activity in disseminating information about the candidates, people coming in to get signs, we can do some phone canvassing for absentee ballots.”

Hermann said the hours will fluctuate as the office will be ran by the committee members.

“We want to let people know that we're here,” she said.

“Hopefully people will stop in and visit with us if they have concerns or thoughts or questions,” Peitz said.

An open house is set for 3-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26. The community is invited to come to check out the office and meet some of the Democratic candidates.
