1. Book Buddy meeting

Currently at eight locations in Des Moines, United Way of Central Iowa is bringing Book Buddy to Perry this October. Volunteers read one-on-one with preschool students using an easy-to-follow curriculum and children bring home their own copy of the featured book each week.

2. Pancake breakfast
7 a.m. - 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16 at Woodward Social Center.
Woodward Fire and Rescue will be hosting a pancake breakfast on Sunday, Sept. 16 for a freewill donation.
3. Pork chop dinner
5-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2715 Iowa St.
A pork chop dinner will be served on Sept. 16 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Pork chop, salad, sides and a beverage will be served for $8. Pie and ice cream will also be available. Carry-outs will also be available. Call 515-465-3272 to order ahead, or just stop by. A free movie for the kids will also be showing. Proceeds from the dinner will be used toward Trinity’s local mission work.
4. Fall storytime sessions
10:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18 at Perry Public Library.
New seven-week fall storytime sessions will begin Sept. 18 for toddlers, Sept. 19 for preschoolers and Sept. 20 for babies up to 18 months and their caregivers. Storytimes at the library are always free, but pre-registration is required to ensure materials are available for all participants. 5. September book club
1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18 at Clarion Room of Security Bank Building, 1102 Willis Ave.
The selected title for the Perry Public Library monthly book club meeting is “A Gentleman in Moscow” by Amor Towles.
