Marc and Misty Ray, who stand accused of 17 charges related to the death of their 16-year-old, adopted daughter, Sabrina Ray, will be tried in Woodbury County on Feb. 4, 2019, Dallas County Courthouse records show.
Judge Terry Rickers granted the change of venue motion filed by Marc and Misty Ray during a hearing on Wednesday, Aug. 22.
Lawyers for both defendants said a fair and impartial trial could not be held in Dallas County. Significant media coverage, they said, has led people within the county to have a negative impression of the Rays and the case.
Marc, and his wife, Misty Bousman-Ray, were arrested on May 18, 2017, after their adopted 16-year-old daughter was found deceased in the family’s home at 1708 First Ave., which was also the home of Rays of Sunshine Daycare. Marc and Misty were allegedly in Florida on vacation at the time of Sabrina’s death.
The Rays have been charged with child endangerment resulting in death, three counts neglect or abandonment of a dependent person, four counts of child endangerment resulting in serious injury, three counts of first degree kidnapping and first degree murder, in addition to the charges added on May 2. Those charges include ongoing criminal conduct - unlawful activity, first degree theft and first degree fraudulent practice.
