The annual Police Night Out was held on Tuesday, Aug. 7 near the Perry Hy-Vee. The event is held nationally on the first Tuesday of August each year.

The Perry event featured multiple activities for area kids. Some climbed inside a Perry Police Department or Dallas County Sheriff vehicle and hit the button for the siren. Others climbed into the back of the police car.

Still others tried on a vest, equipment belt, hat and shirt with the help of Perry Police Department officers. Another line of kids waited to try their hand at dunking an officer.

The Hy-Vee KidsFit crew was also on hand during the event.

The Perry Police Department and Dallas County Sheriff's Office will be bringing different vehicles to the Public Safety Day on Saturday, Aug. 18. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Perry Hy-Vee parking lot. Vehicles from the police department, sheriff's office, ambulance service, fire department, street department and more will be on display for the public.
