The Masonry Institute of Iowa (MII) along with several of its members, presented to Perry High School’s Industrial Technology program. Twelve students from instructor Calvin Smith’s Materials and Processes class participated in the demonstration mid-December.

MII director, Jenny Stephenson, presented a lecture on masonry during class on Dec. 14. The following day, the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) Local 3 union demonstrated bricklaying and helped the students build brick tiers.

Materials for the demo were provided by MII members Glen-Gery Masonry Products and TCC Materials.

“This was a fun hands-on experience for the students and a great way to showcase masonry. The purpose of these demos are to introduce the students to the skilled trades, especially bricklaying,” said MII Director, Jenny Stephenson.
