The Booster Club will provide runners and holiday enthusiasts with an opportunity to run in Perry’s first ever Tinsel Trot on Sunday, Dec. 17. The 5k fun run will begin at the McCreary Rec Center starting at 1 p.m.

Costumes are welcome during the race, and prizes will be given out for the following categories: Most Festive Adult, Most Festive Student, and Most Festive Team.

“We’re always looking for new ideas and new ways to generate much needed funds so we thought this would be a fun event,” said Booster Club member, Tiffany Olejniczak.

While registration for a t-shirt ended on Dec. 10, day-of runners are welcome to attend. To run, adults have a registration fee of $30 and students, including college students, cost $20.

“We’re going to start registering at noon on the 17th and the run starts at 1 p.m.,” Olejniczak said. “We would love for more people to walk up and register.”

Olejniczak says the list of pre-registered runners has reached a line-up of 52 middle school, high school, and college students, as well as community and staff members.

“This is meant to be a fun, [and] it will be timed for the more focused runner, however, people can walk it, they can do it,” Olejniczak said. “We’ve got prizes for the most festive costume, but are not required.”

Santa will lead the fun run and there will also be an opportunity to take photos after.

“He will be there for post-race photo opportunities and we’ll have a little photo booth area,” Olejniczak said.

Hy-Vee will also provide hot chocolate and festive treats.
