Toys for Tots got a big addition to the toy chest from Perry Elks Lodge #407 on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017. The lodge held a toy drive on Nov. 18 in conjunction with a potato bar served to members and guests that evening.

According to Dave Davis, Leading Knight, “our members were very generous. We were able to donate nearly 100 new toys to the Toys for Tots program”.

The toys were recently handed over to John and Linda Andorf, who are the local contact persons for the area Marine Corp operation. The Elks donation will make several children happy on Christmas morning.

Andorf and his wife said the need for toys is great in our community.

“By the time we get everything (children names) that is local and what the Marine Corps sends in, there’s a lot there and it is overwhelming because we look at some of those lists and wonder how can we get enough”, Linda said.

“We’ve had families come in on the last day and say ‘I’ve just lost my job. Is there anyway I can get toys for my kids?’ and we scramble to get them something,” Linda explained.

“The need in our community is greater than we think,” said John.

The Andorfs are still accepting both monetary or toy donations. They can be reached at 515-465-5803. Elks members wishing to make a last-minute donation may drop off toys at the lodge or call 515-465-3791.
