Voter eligibility


Requirements: To Vote in the Regular School Election one must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years of age, not currently judged by a court to be “incompetent to vote,” and not convicted of a felony.


Voter Registration: The deadline to register to vote is 5 p.m. on Friday, September 1, 2017. The Dallas County Auditor’s Office will be open on September 1, 2017 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.


After this date, new voters can still vote and register in the Auditor’s Office or register on Election Day at their designated polling place or vote center. The voter will be required to show proof of residency and identity. One form of ID is a valid Iowa Driver’s license with the voter’s current address. Proof of residency must be dated (or describe terms of residency current to) within 45 days prior to presentation. Hard copy proof of residency (electronic copies are unacceptable) can be accomplished with:


· Property tax statement


· Utility bill


· Bank Statement


· Paycheck


· Government check


· Other government document


A current photo ID which is valid and contains an expirations date can be used for proof of identity. Among valid documents are:


· Out-of-state driver’s license


· Non-driver identification card


· US passport


· US military ID


· ID card issued by employer


· Iowa high school or college ID


· Veterans ID


Where to Pre-Register: The Dallas County Auditor’s Office, 210 N 10th Street, Adel, IA on weekdays between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Registration forms can also be found on the Dallas County Web site http://www.co.dallas.ia.us/government/auditor/elections or at the website of the Iowa Secretary of State at www.sos.state.ia.us. Registration Changes: Name, party and address changes, if you are already registered within Dallas County, may be made any time up to and including Election Day. Prior to Election Day, changes are made by the same means as voter registration. On Election Day, changes may be made at the voters’ polling place. If the voter has changed their address, the voter will need to go to the voter’s new polling site.


Absentee Voting: Absentee votes may be cast at the Dallas County Auditor’s Office from August 21, 2017 through September 11, 2017. The Dallas County Election office will be open on daily for absentee voting from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Request forms for absentee ballots may be obtained at the Dallas County Auditor’s Office or on the Dallas County Web site at http://www.co.dallas.ia.us/government/auditor/elections


All requests for ballots to be mailed must be received by 5 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2017 Completed absentee ballots must be postmarked by midnight the last working day prior to the election (September 11) or may be delivered to the Dallas County Auditor’s Office before the polls close (8 p.m.) on Election Day.


Perry Community School District Polling Place: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.


The polling place for all eligible electors who live in the Perry School District is:


McCreary Community Building: 1800 Pattee Street, Perry Iowa


Woodward-Granger Community School District Polling Places: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.


Vote Centers have been established. Eligible electors who live in the Woodward-Granger School District may vote at any of the following locations:


1. Emmanuel United Methodist Church: 1910 Locust Street, Granger Iowa

2. Woodward United Methodist Church: 108 W 5th Street, Woodward Iowa
