On Thursday, May 25, both Marc and Misty Ray appeared in the Dallas County Court to enter a plea of not guilty for all charges. The couple was arrested on Thursday, May 18, following the death of 16-year-old Sabrina Ray, discovered weighing fifty-six pounds at the Rays of Sunshine Daycare residence on May 12.

Misty Ray is represented by Sean Spellman and Marc Ray is represented by Jake Feuerhelm. Judge Gregory A Hulse will oversee the trial.

The couple are each charged with one count of child endangerment resulting in death, four counts of child endangerment resulting in serious injury, and three counts of neglect or abandonment of a dependent person.

During the hearing, both Marc and Misty Ray waived the right to a speedy trial. Feuerhelm informed Judge Hulse of a bond request for Marc, but has not yet heard an answer. Spellman requested to have a bond review on Misty’s half.

The pretrial conference date is set to July 28, 2017, at 9:30 a.m., and the start of the trial will begin on August 29, 2017 , at 9:30 a.m. Arraignment for Marc Ray has been scheduled for June 9 at 8:30 a.m.

Marc Ray had his eyes cast down during the hearing while Misty Ray appeared to have been crying previously to her entrance. Misty’s lawyer, Sean Spellman, sat between Marc and Misty.

They currently have a cash-only bond set at $1 million.
