On Tuesday afternoon, flags were placed throughout Perry’s downtown as a spring preview of what the community can expect to see upon upcoming holidays. The Flags Over Perry program provides upkeep to those who purchase a flag in advance.

The initiative is brought on by Perry’s Optimist and Lions Club.

“We do it to raise awareness with the flags,” Perry Lions Club President, Dave Wright said. “It just really looks sharp.”

Flags are placed throughout houses and businesses during the following holidays: Memorial Day, Flag Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, and Veterans Day.

“It makes people feel good when they put flags up,” Wright said.

Flags can be purchased for $25.00 which accounts for the upkeep of putting the flag up and taking the flag down on each designated flag holiday.
