On Tuesday, April 4, the PCSD School Board announced the two candidates who qualified for the superintendent search: PCSD Middle School Principal, Shaun Kruger, and current Superintendent of Orient-Macksburg Schools, Clark Wicks. Kruger has worked as the PCSD Middle School Principal since 2005 and Wicks previously worked as PCSD’s Elementary Principal from 1989 to 2012.

According to a press release sent from the PCSD School Board, PCSD received 18 applicants and narrowed down the list to six candidates.

On Monday, April 3, the PCSD School Board held a special school board meeting with intentions of choosing the superintendent out of the six candidates who interview. After deliberation during the closed meeting, the board decided upon the organization of a second round of interviews for two candidates on April 13.

While the second round of interviews has pushed the original deadline of the announcement on April 10, the Board hopes to finalize the decision by the 13th, according to a report sent by the School Board.

Once the candidate is chosen, a contract will have to be created before the announcement is made at a special school board meeting.

“The board is doing a really good job of trying to weigh question by question,” Bultman said.

During the interview process, committee members were given a score sheet in order to identify the best possible candidate. Bultman said there was a ranking scale of 3, 2, or 1, with 3 being the top score. Interviewers were able to either rank the candidate or leave additional comments with their score sheets. All score cards were anonymous.

Another round of interviews will begin on 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, during a closed meeting with the school board. The last interview is tentatively scheduled to take place at 6:45 p.m.
