In efforts to kick off fundraisers for the Dallas County Relay for Life, Team Bookworm will host a “Create for Life” event on Saturday, April 22. The event will occur in the McCreary Community Building from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Every year, “Create for Life” occurs once in the spring and once in the fall.
“This is really fun,” said Team Bookworm Member, Kathy Miller. “This has got to be the funnest fundraiser I’ve ever been to.”
The twelve-hour event will give fellow creatives and crafters the opportunity to sit at an open space and work on projects. Each person will receive eight feet of work space and are encouraged to bring any sort of craft to work on.
“It’s great for those who have young kids,” Miller said. “It gives them a chance to make gifts or do their crafts without having to stop and take care of kids.”
Admission is $40 per person and $30 for cancer survivors. All of the funds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
A list of thirty attendees participated in the previous “Create for Life” event, but both Miller and Johnson said they are able to accommodate for more.
“It’s a socialization thing, it’s a way to get your project done, and it’s a bonus because you’re giving it to the American Cancer Society,” Marlene Johnson, Team Bookworm Member and Circulation Clerk of the Perry Public Library said.
Snacks and refreshments will be available throughout the day, as well as a provided lunch and dinner. Some other features at the event will include door prizes, vendors on site, make and take projects, a massage therapist who provides $1-per-minute massages.
“We have a lot of loyal people who keep coming and we’re always looking for new people, too,” Johnson said.
Registration for the event is due by Monday, April 17. For registration purposes, the check for admission would be made out to the American Cancer Society.
Those interested in the event are able to register at the Perry Public Library, or can contact Misty at the Perry Public Library, 515-201-9215, or Kathy Miller at 515-822-6097.
