One week ahead of the 2018 Hawks Senior night, the team was in Pleasantville for their latest match up. The Hawks fell to their now 2-5 opponent 27-7.
Keith Braunschweig had seven completed passes on Friday with five of them going to Bryce Achenbach for 51 yards. Reese Jamison and Pacey Moats each successfully received one Braunschweig each with Jamison racking up 19 yards and Moats with 35.
The solo touchdown of the evening was thanks to Gabe Yingst who rushed for a total of 108 yards on five attempts. Yingst’s touchdown came from an 85 yard rush attempt that put the Hawks on the scoreboard preceding Matt Hansen’s successful extra point.
Bryce Achenbach went six yards on four attempts and Tate Lettow saw 42 yards on 12 attempts. Kade Polich racked up a total of 21 yards on his four attempts while Braunschweig went 25 on five.
Defensively the Hawks put up a good fight nine tackles coming from Yingst and 5.5 tackles each from Achenbach and Cale Pritchett. 4.5 tackles were racked up individually from Jamison and Lettow while Jackson Newland and Polich each came out of the game with four total tackles. Kris Kammer ended the game with three tackles of his own along with Pacey Moats. Two total tackles each came from Braunschweig, Hansen, and John McKeever while Joe Rhodes ended up with 3.5 total tackles.
There was one fumble recovery that gave the Hawks some momentum to push through Friday night’s competition. Lettow was able to recovery the ball, but no yards were gained from the junior’s quick moves.
W-G now stands at 4-3 overall with two games left to play in the regular season. On Friday, Oct. 12 the Hawks will take on Pella Christian back at their home field where they will also celebrate Senior Night. The Eagles are currently 5-2 overall and will be coming off of a 42-0 win over Colfax-Mingo.
